Wild at Heart

Wild at Heart Synopsis

ITV’s hugely successful Sunday night family drama, starring Stephen Tompkinson.

When Danny Trevanion and his wife Sarah decided to take their family on a holiday to South Africa, the last thing they expected to do was end up staying. After fifteen years as a Bristol vet, Danny is now using his skills to heal elephants and lions as he and Sarah battle against the odds to establish their own game reserve and make a new life for themselves.

Of course, no-one said it would be easy. For a start, their partner in this enterprise is a cantankerous old South African called Du Plessis, whose crucial contribution is a huge tract of land long fallen into disuse. Danny and Sarah must somehow repopulate this area with wild animals, an arduous and stressful task that requires all of Danny’s veterinary and all of Sarah’s organisational skills.

Then there’s the matter of family. After being widowed several years ago, Danny’s new wife Sarah is now the one constant bright spot in his life – but the same can’t be said for their children. Danny’s daughter Rosie, a stridently opinionated 17-year-old, resents Sarah for trying to take the place of her dead mother. Meanwhile, Sarah’s own children from her previous marriage are having an equally tough time adjusting to the new man in their lives, none more so than wild child Evan.

Over 7 series, Wild At Heart follows the ups and downs of one English family’s very own African adventure. From poisonous snakes to poachers to truculent elephants and wounded lion cubs, there’s no shortage of challenges. But the biggest challenge of all for this most modern of dysfunctional clans will be each other.
